Scene 1: Classes are suspended; everyone went home for spring break and she has the apartment all to herself. She knows that Jesus forgave her last semester but she decides to give in to her flesh for the fifth time. Thinking out loud, she says, “God will forgive me and besides, I am not hurting anyone.”
Scene 2: Making sure that all the doors are locked, she sits to her desk and signs onto the computer. The screen goes black and then suddenly you hear the moaning and groaning sounds from her favorite stars- favorite porn stars, that is.
You may not be addicted to pornography but some of us have that dark secret that we do not want anyone else to know about. Like the college student, our fleshly desires have convinced us that it is okay to keep committing a sin because God will keep forgiving us. Yes, God is forgiving but why make your prayer list longer by not trusting God to keep you and resisting temptations?
I believe that if anything has to be done behind closed doors because of shame and embarrassment, that “thing” has the ability to silently destroy your soul. Living in secrecy as a believer is not God’s will. Galatians 5: 19-21 (NIV) says “the acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
So could the reason some of us are still waiting on our blessings is because we still want to play around in our mud of secrets? Before God delivered me from lusting, the devil opened so many doors for me to dive into perversion, but thankfully the Holy Spirit told me if I tasted the temptation, I would regret the pain attached. Was I angry? Yes! I wanted to have some fun because I felt my life was boring being a virgin.
But we must remember our heavenly Father chases us because He loves us. Do not continue to allow that deep dark secret to separate you from the promises of God. So if you are struggling with lying, gossiping, gambling, masturbation, homosexuality and more, pray and seek help from a spiritually-sound believer that will love you into freedom and not condemn you.
Accountability and boundaries are necessities for believers. Life will not get easier if you continue to believe that no one else can help you except Jesus. God wants to deliver His children from strongholds but He needs human vessels to work through here on earth. Make a decision to walk in freedom and expose the secrets that are keeping you in bondage. For whatever God reveals, He will heal- if you allow Him.
Declare this today: The secret is out and I am ready to walk in freedom!
