I am convinced that people spend entirely too much time trying be someone they’re not. Think about how you go about your daily life. Do you ever walk around and compare yourself to another person? Do you ever feel like someone has something you don’t have? Or, there is something about another person that makes them better, or more interesting than you? Well don’t! There is nobody like you. You are distinct; you are one of a kind, and you are who God created you to be. However, you have to believe it. Here’s the dilemma. Many of us are not able to see the unique design of who we are because we have not sought out the Source who puts purpose in our lives. His name is Jesus! That’s why we lose sight of our identity, and compare ourselves to other people. We fail to go to the One who identifies us. As soon as you surrender to Jesus, and He begins to reveal to you who you are, it will be your decision to follow through. This is going to take focus and perseverance; therefore, you must not worry about what your surroundings look like, especially if you are determined to do the will of Christ versus someone who is not. It may seem as though others are going further than you and people who did not seek God for their true purpose are making a bigger impact than you. However, do not be deceived; God is not mocked, whatsoever a man sow, that shall he also reap. (Galatians 6:7) Therefore, take heed to what is going on around you, but do not compare yourself to them.
When you walk in what God has for you, understand that everyone is not going to be on board; some may do a great job pretending, or may even be happy for you. However, looking for validation from other folks will drive you crazy. You have to be your biggest fan and know that you are a force to be reckoned with! If you don’t, then who will? Nobody is going to take you seriously if you don’t take yourself serious. This is going beyond confidence, because it is possible to have confidence and still feel inferior to someone else. But don’t! Realize that everyone has their own unique style and swagger. The Bible says God made us in His likeness and in His image. (Genesis 1:27) He is a creative God; therefore, not one of us is the same, so there is no point in trying to be like someone else. It is important to embrace who you are. Walk with your head up and shoulders back. Speak in a way that people cannot help but to listen. Have a posture that says, “I’ve arrived” and dare to be you!
