I am father, and being a father is not something a man can take off at night and put back on in the morning. A father has to embody the definition, mind, body and soul. Also, he has to embody the definition mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
There are too many broken homes that exist; all the while the father possesses tools to plug some of the holes, fill some of the cracks and even replace most of the things which are broken. Now, not every home can be fixed and not every relationship can be mended because there are other factors involved. However, a father must realize three things:
What can he do?
How can he do it?
What means will it take to get it done?
What can he do? As a Father, one of the things he can do is make sure his kids are taken care of. He should do this whether he is in the home or not. He must provide for his children and spend time with them as much as possible.
How can he do it? A father must humble himself and take the cool off. If the home life situation is not traditional, with him and the children’s mother residing in the same home, he must take the role of the responsible parent and make sure there are opportunities for him to be daddy. He must bridge the gap and ensure that the children know daddy and love daddy.
What means will it take to get it done? A father cannot make excuses. When it is father/children time, nothing else and no one else should matter. If a father is not in the home, he must make sure he does not miss weekend visits with the children. He is not allowed to miss birthdays. If he is fortunate enough to live in the same state, he should make regular visits to the school. If the father is in the home, he must sacrifice everything for the good of his family.
I am a father, and being a father is a badge of honor. I will wear it and vow to never take it off!
