Tell me about your new book, “The Jealous Adjective.”
It came to my mind when I saw the noun as the king where all the other parts of speech come to him and serve him, making sure he (noun) has a successful journey. The adjective that got up late felt the noun could be nothing without him (adjective). For example, the world sees the noun through my eyes. The adjective felt worthy to sit on the throne with the king and the king says the adjective is a servant. The adjective lets the noun know how powerful he is through the story. Kids are able to see the power, the importance, and how the noun can’t escape the power of the adjective.
What is the overall message you are conveying to your audience (children and parents)?
On a grammatical level; I want to show children, parents, and teachers the power of the adjective and the usage in this story. King Noun has to learn how to share and use pronouns, disrespecting the pronoun. The pronoun should be on the stage but he never gets there because the noun will not share. Working together as adjectives and nouns, in the end adjectives sit together on the throne. It is pretty much a message of sharing! You don’t want the world to see the noun as angry because that will create a negative story.
The characters in your book are Conjunction, King Noun, Adverb, etc. You are a second grade teacher so we definitely see your teacher skills within this book. (share laughs) Where did your passion come from to inspire, motivate, and encourage our youth?
I received salvation at the age of 15. When I became older, I would teach Sunday school. I didn’t know I would be a public school teacher but I believe that the passion when I bring forth the word also comes through my teaching and writing!
